We’re so happy to announce that Third Place Technologies has received a 4Culture Doors Open Facilities grant for building improvements for Sky Artworks – our arts-oriented community center including a collaborative art studio, meeting space, makerspace, and gallery here in Skykomish, WA.

While we love our home in the old Maloney Store – a historic Landmark building in downtown Skykomish – this old building from 1904 has presented many challenges. The 4Culture Doors Open Facilities grant will allow us to upgrade our electrical system to meet our lighting and equipment demands, secure a generator that will keep us functioning through the frequent power outages we experience up here in the mountains, and complete other essential upgrades in our plumbing, hvac system, and building exterior.

Sky Artworks is the only art gallery or collaborative maker studio in this remote, Northeast corner of King County, and with this grant we will be able to serve our local community for years to come – keeping the doors open and lights on for our creative efforts rain or shine or snowstorm!

We want to thank our District 3 King County Councilmember Sarah Perry who has been extremely supportive of our endeavors here at Sky Artworks, our King County Executive Dow Constantine, and the King County Council as a whole for passing Doors Open. Particularly for more economically or geographically challenged regions such as ours in Skykomish, support from 4Culture meaningfully affects the scope of arts and culture services we can provide to our community.

2024 Community Accelerator Grant

Posted on April 17, 2024December 18, 2024 By KMolesky

We’re delighted! #SkyArtworks and THIRD PLACE TECHNOLOGIES are once again proud recipients of a Community Accelerator Grant, funded by The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and awarded by ArtsFund. This unrestricted grant supports our work across King County, from the rural arts-oriented makerspace in Skykomish #SkyArtworks and #ElectricSky to Seattle-based #PassableArts —both key hubs for collaborative art + technology exhibitions and large-scale events.

Looking ahead, this second grant will support our innovative initiatives at #SkyArtworks, #Passable, and #ElectricSky, enhancing studio and educational projects that focus on developing renewable creative practices. These projects incorporate kinetic and illuminated elements powered by solar, wind, and water resources, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable innovation.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation and ArtsFund for their continued support and trust in our mission. For a community-driven organization like ours, the impact of an unrestricted grant cannot be overstated. This kind of support not only empowers us to seize opportunities to forge transformative partnerships but also to create experiences that enrich the public through our unique interdisciplinary approach at the intersection of art and  technology and civic engagement.
